Please read before checking the
at the bottom of the
marriages listed in the Proof of Marriage (Index)are, as
best determined, the marriages added from various
sources, i.e. the parties themselves, ministers, etc.
marriages in Marriage Book # 1, I have transcribed as listed in
of marriages, dating from 1911 thru 1914. There are a few 1915.
The marriages are listed on pages A - Z according to groom's
However, there are some that do not begin with the letter they are
listed under. There are several listed on the B page that do not begin
with B. I have tried to transcribe as recorded using the
same spelling as in the l index. The recorder
wrote his a's and o's exactly the same. For instance McCall could be
McColl and McCallum could be McCollum. Johnston County,
NC was indexed as Johnson County, NC. St Pauls was
recorded as St. Paul. Other names were
to decipher and not taking
the time to check each liscense in
these instances, I have used a *best guess. . The
free find search feature on the front page, hopefully, will be an
locating a person of interest.
books are housed at the Office of the Judge of Probate in Dillon, South
Some do not have license numbers and therefore no copy will be
filed. Some do not have dates of marriage but do have a
license number. I do not know if the date appears on the license.
A copy of those that do have a license number can be ordered from the
Office of the Judge of Probate. Instructions for ordering appear
at the end of this page.
Even though I have tried not to,
errors can be easily made. The year of the marriage was not
always entered and not in order of date so mistakes in determining the
year are possible. If you discover a typo or error
please inform me and I will research it further. This is a
transcription and it is
always prudent to view the data first hand if possible.
To obtain a copy of a marriage you must request it in writing or by
visiting the the office personally. There is a fee of $5.00 for each
copy. Only money orders made out to the Judge of Probate will be
accepted. No checks or credit cards. I am in no way an employee
of the county. My works are strictly on a volunteer basis, so
please do not ask me to get a copy for you. A note of
interest. If some of the folders we have checked for clarity we
have found copies of birth certificates, affidavits and in one instance
the original birth certificate.
